Taiwan WiMAX licensee Global Mobile in cooperation talks with Clearwire
Taiwan WiMAX licensee Global Mobile is currently in cooperation talks with US-based WiMAX operator Clearwire with details likely to be revealed later this week, according to Global Mobile.
The two companies are likely to sign a strategic alliance agreement under which Clearwire may commit equity investment in Global Mobile, given that the local WiMAX licensee is scheduled to carry out a capital expansion project during 2009, indicated market watchers in Taiwan.
Global Mobile, which currently has a registered capital of NT$1.13 billion (US$33.4 million), plans to increase its capital by NT$1.1-1.9 billion this year to finance the installment of its WiMAX infrastructure, company chairperson Rosemary Ho said earlier.
Global Mobile is expected to secure a permit from Taiwan's National Communications Commission (NCC) by the end of this month that will enable it to start installing its WiMAX network, said the market watchers.
