BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Verizon Wireless reiterated once again its unwavering support behind a plan proposed by the nation’s leading police chiefs, sheriffs and fire chiefs to ensure that first responders nationwide have access to effective, interoperable wireless broadband communications networks. The plan calls for dedicating the 700 MHz “D” Block spectrum to public safety.
The plan was detailed in Washington, D.C. today by leaders of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, International Association of Fire Chiefs, Major Cities Chiefs Association, Metropolitan Fire Chiefs, National Sheriffs Association, Major County Sheriffs Association, Association of Public Safety Communication Officers, National Emergency Number Association, and National Emergency Management Association.
Verizon Wireless has a long history supporting public safety’s efforts to gain flexibility in addressing wireless broadband needs; this includes the ability to build dedicated networks or to partner with commercial wireless service providers to meet unique public safety needs.
The company supports public safety’s request for the Obama Administration, Congress and the Federal Communications Commission to act urgently, noting that policy makers have a unique opportunity to make unparalleled improvements in delivering emergency services.
